Are cloth diapers really better?

The kind of diaper your little one uses is of course totally up to you. But which kind is better? The answer to that is a tough one, and really depends on personal preference.

 While cloth diapers are not the same as they used to be, they are still a more affordable option for those of us with tight budgets.

The benefits of cloth are not just in your wallet, but also the baby’s skin. According to the Journal of Pediatrics, 54% of one month old babies who use disposables had diaper rash, 16% of those being severe.  

But what does all this mean?  

Well, for most families, not a whole lot. Because most children are in daycares, pre-school, church nursery, or at a babysitter, the use of CD all the time, is simply not possible. Most of the time families turn to the more expensive, disposable diapers simply because they haven’t the time or energy to fuss with the cloth.  

The moral of the story is, you must do what is best for your family. While cloth are more eco-friendly, cost effective, and easier on the skin, they can also be a lot of work for a mom who doesn’t have much spare time to begin with. If you are on the fence about which to use, try both! Buy enough diapers to last you 2-3 days (cloth that is) and see how it goes. You could order some disposables as well so you have them on hand in case a.) it doesn’t go as well as you thought it would, or b.) you go somewhere where cloth isn’t an option.
