Baby Names the Scoop and the Real Poop on What Is Current Posted By : Dick Tightman

Well, the votes have been tallied again, hanging Chads removed and the results kept on Funk and WagnallsÂ’ porch until midday yesterday. But, the Social Security Administration finally announced that yes, they still have money and yes, the list of most popular baby names for 2008 has been revealed.

Leading the list for girls is Emma and for boys is Jacob. The name Barack registered within the top 1000 for the first time ever. Hussein is still languishing towards the bottom, however. Emily fell back to the number 3 position underneath Isabella in the two spot.

Behind Jacob are Michael and Ethan. Kind of sounds like a horse race now doesnÂ’t it? Coming up on the outside is Jacob hitting his stride and nosing out Michael and Ethan for top honors and a garland of roses.

No, but semi-seriously though, here are the top 10 boy baby names in descending order including: Jacob, Michael, Ethan, Joshua (no Judges or Ruth here), Daniel, Alexander, Anthony, William, Christopher, and Matthew.

And, just as semi-seriously are the top 10 girl baby names including Emma, Isabella, Emily, Madison, Ava, Olivia, Sophia, Abigail, Elizabeth and Chloe. I wanted to put Hulga right up there but I just couldnÂ’t bring myself to do it.

But, you may just ask yourself where are common names like David, Donna and John for gosh sakes? Well, you can keep asking until the cows come home but they are not making a comeback anytime soon and even if the cows do in fact, come home, this means nothing in the larger scheme of things.

Now, when the chicken come home to roost is an entirely different discussion altogether. And speaking of different discussions the name Milhouse and Judas have never since time began made a run at the top 10.

When time did begin, the most popular caveman baby names were Ogg, Thogg and Bogg though the Prehistoric Social Security Commission did not divide up boy and girl names at that time.

But, I digress and so should you dear reader. If you’re looking for a baby name be original, be unique, give your child the gift of identity. The number 4 as a baby name has not been overused and neither has the word “Obsequious”. Enough said.
